2015 NGA ‘Old Navy’ Natural Master Pro Bodybuilding and Master Pro Figure Classic
Birmingham, Alabama, July 11th
Fifty-eight outstanding men and women athletes came from Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Mississippi, Louisiana, Kentucky, South Carolina, Texas, Virginia, Ohio and Alabama to vie for Neils Andersen Sculptured trophies and NGA Pro Cards at the eighth annual 2015 NGA Alabama Natural Open Bodybuilding, Figure, Physique and Bikini Championships – Super Pro Qualifier and the third annual NGA ‘Old Navy’ Natural Master Pro Bodybuilding and Master Pro Figure Classic in Birmingham, Alabama.
The athletes were pleased as we returned to Birmingham for the fifth year to Homewood High School with its great stage, sound system and dramatic lighting, the pump up area, the back stage refreshments and their 2015 NGA Alabama sports bag with the official 2015 show t-shirt and a Snickers bar.
Class winners were all awarded gift certificates from Cherry Bombs Attitude Gear for men’s or women’s posing suits.
The contest started on time and ran smoothly. It was a “competitor’s show,” run by competitors who know what athletes want and need. Many of the competitors were repeat contestants from last year and many said they would like to come back next year for the ninth annual 2016 NGA Alabama Natural Open Championships on July 9, 2016. Others said they would encourage their competitor friends to join them on stage. As always, it was a fun show.
In addition to the NGA Alabama Open amateur show, five Master Pro men bodybuilders, four Grand Master Pro bodybuilders and two Master Pro Figure competitors were on stage to compete in the NGA ‘Old Navy’ Natural Master Pro Bodybuilding and Master Pro Figure Classic. Rico Browning from Woodbridge, VA defended his Men’s Master Pro Bodybuilding title and David Weinstock from Davie, FL won the Grand Masters Pro title. Paige Hagar from Mt. Juliet, TN last year’s Master Pro Figure winner defended her title and won it for the third straight year. Each received the First Place cash prize and a gift certificate from Cherry Bombs Attitude Gear. The other top winners in the contest received a cash prize and Cherry Bombs Attitude Gear Certificates. The total cash purse for the contest was $3,000, split between Men’s Pro Bodybuilding and Pro Figure. Next year’s cash prize purse will be increased to at least $5,000.
In the amateur competition, Pro Card eligible classes needed five or more competitors entered for the Open Division and three or more competitors entered for the Masters Division. NGA Pro Cards were awarded to 10 athletes in this Super Pro Qualifier. Mark Martin from Gadsden, AL took the lightweight title and won the Overall Championship. He also won the Men’s Masters 40+ class and the Overall Masters title. Mark is now a proud NGA Open Pro and NGA Master Pro Bodybuilder. Brian Hamby from Birmingham, AL won the Men’s Masters 50+ title and an NGA Master Pro Card. J. C. Lewis from Eatonton, GA, winner of the Men’s Masters 60+ class is a proud holder of an NGA Masters Pro Card. Also joining the NGA Bodybuilding Pro ranks is Open Heavyweight winner Kyle Moore from Chelsea, AL
Figure Open winner Christina Myers from Birmingham, AL and Figure Masters winner Missy Dlugozime from Atlanta, GA earned NGA Open Figure and NGA Master Figure Pro Cards. Bikini Open Champion, Sarah Lawley from Birmingham, AL won her NGA Open Bikini Pro Card and the Men’s Physique Pro Card was won by Del Green also from Birmingham.
